If you wish to delve into the past you must visit the museum which is located at the Raj Bhavan. It houses a compilation of archeological excavations from as far back as the 8th to 12th century. Here you will come across some fine carvings made in brass and bronze.

The world headquarters of the Brahma Kumari of lady renunciates is also located here, as is the World Spiritual University of the same denomination. The Brahma Kumaris believe that all religions are equally valid as they all lead to God. They deem that the ideology of all the religions should be researched. The sect’s declared goal is to establish universal peace by imparting spiritual information and instruction of simple raja yoga meditation. More than 4000 branches exist in over 60 countries around the world and the disciples arrive in Mount Abu to attend discourses at the sect’s spiritual university. You would have to contact your local branch for advance arrangements to attend one of these residential courses. However, you could get an introductory course of seven lessons while you are visiting Mount Abu. It would take at least three days for this. This is entirely free of cost. The organization runs totally on donations. There is a museum here where one can observe an outline of the sect’s teachings and where they provide lessons in meditation.

Evenings are spent on the peaceful Nakki Lake. One could hire a boat here to enjoy a lazy boat ride on the lake. It is virtually in the heart of Mount Abu. There is a legend with regards to how the lake got its name. The legend is that God hollowed out the land over here by using his nails (nakk in Hindi). You can also find some unusual rock formations. Toad Rock is the most famous of these rock formations. It appears like a toad about to take a leap into the lake. The names of other such rock formations are Nun Rock, Nandi Rock and Camel Rock. But one needs to stretch one’s imagination a bit to see it.

Yet another place to spend the evenings is at Sunset point. People throng here to catch sight of the beauty of the setting sun. One could also get a glimpse of the setting sun from Honeymoon point, The Crags and Robert’s Spur. Another spot to catch a glimpse of a panoramic view is the Shanti Shikhar which is to the west of Adhar Devi temple. If you want to see the lake in its resplendent glory, the best place would be from the terrace of the former Maharaja of Jaipur’s summer palace. Nobody objects if you climb up there to take a photo or look around.

At a distance of 5 kilometers is Trevor’s Tank. This is a veritable paradise for birdwatchers. It offers a sanctuary to partridges, pigeons and peacocks, the national bird of India. It is named Trevor’s Tank after a British engineer who built it.
